Pointless Photo Monday XXXV – Special Lizard Edition

Is that a lizard in your Land Cruiser or are you just happy to see me?

Yes! We are back in the Original Land of Sweat ® (a.k.a. Cambodia), and what is one of the first things seen from our hotel balcony the day we arrive? A monitor lizard in a UN Land Cruiser parked in a lot below. I’m not sure the lizard lasted the day in the car in the sun. But as payback, I can’t imagine the smell that a dead carrion-eater leaves in an SUV.

As we are back over here, more will be posted soonly.

Pointless Photo Monday XXXIV – Special Wednesday Edition

The calm, geometric scene that greeted me upon exiting a garment factory building while working on a story on Monday. The scenes were different inside.

It’s true, I’ve seen a lot of beds lately. A bout of dengue fever left me under the sheets and completely out of commission and mentally lost in Laos for more than a week. I’m still getting over its lingering effects.

But that didn’t stop me from joining Karen on a 60-hour reporting trip back to Cambodia, where we have visited a couple of garment factories for a couple of big upcoming stories on Cambodia and labor. What’s it like working with dengue? Really, really sweaty. I think I may have scared our host at the first place.
